When it comes to choosing dog toys, remember that it is always safety first!
Here are some quick tips on how to choose safe chew toys for your doggo.

  • Recycle children’s toys but remove strings, ribbons, buttons, and eyes that your dog could easily swallow or choke on.
  • Choose toys that are an appropriate size for your dog. Toys that are too small are easy to choke on and toys that are too large are hard to carry around the house.
  • Supervise play with squeaky toys because the noise might make your doggo think that they need to swallow the toy to stop the squeaking!
  • Consult a vet before using rawhide toys, as this could be a potential choking hazard for your dog.

Aggressive dog chew toys…

There are different types of dog toys that serve different purposes for your doggo. Even if he or she is an aggressive chewer, be sure to how a few of each type of toy to keep your doggo entertained.

  • Active toys keep your doggo active! They could include tug of war ropes, chew toys to gnaw on. Tennis balls and frisbees are options too!
  • Distraction toys help keep your doggo mentally stimulated. These could include puzzles or Kong-type toys with treats or peanut butter placed inside to keep your dog occupied.
  • Comfort toys include stuffed animals that your pup might like to cuddle with or bring around the house like a companion. Some pups love to rip apart their stuffed toys when mimicking kills in the wild.

Make your doggo’s toys last by rotating the toys he or she uses on a daily basis so not all the toys get worn out at once! It might make sense to leave out some of your doggo’s comfort toys for them to keep always.

Remember to focus on activities and exercises that you can do with your dog and include their toy! You might want to consider playing fetch with them, tug of war, hide and seek with their toys, and more!
