Have you ever wondered if there are human food dogs can eat? Have you ever asked yourself questions along the lines of “are apples safe for dogs?” If you answered yes to either of these questions, you should check out this guide that will help you determine if your favorite fruits, nuts, and vegetables are safe for your doggo to eat.

What fruit can a dog eat? I want to know if apples are good for my doggo… Here is a list of 3 fruits dogs can eat:

  • Apples: Good news! Your dog can indeed enjoy apples! Not only are they delicious, they are high in fiber and vitamins A and C, and low in protein, which makes it a healthy treat for older doggos. Just make sure you remove the seeds, which are not safe to eat!
  • Bananas: In moderation, bananas are a great choice of dog treats with low calories. Bananas are high in potassium, vitamins, biotin, fiber, and copper. However, because they also have a high sugar content, they should be given as a treat and in moderation.
  • Cantaloupe: Like bananas, cantaloupes are low in calories and high in fiber, but high in sugar, so they should only be served in moderation, especially for diabetic or overweight dogs or else they will gain weight.

What vegetables can a dog eat? Can my dog eat tomatoes? Sorry, but the answer is no. BUT check out these 3 vegetables safe for dogs to eat:

  • Broccoli: Broccoli is high in fiber and Vitamin C and low in fat. However, it also contains isothiocyanates, which can cause mild-to-potentially-severe gastric irritation in some dogs, so it is strongly unadvisable for dogs with a sensitive stomach.
  • Carrots: Carrots are an excellent low-calorie, high fiber treat. In addition to being high in fiber, they are also high in beta-carotene, which produces vitamin A, which we probably all know carrots for. A big bonus: their crunchy texture is great for your dog’s teeth.
  • Green beans: Chopped, steamed, raw, or canned, you name it! All types of green beans are safe for dogs to eat, as long as they are served plain and with low or no salt. Green beans are low in calories and full of important vitamins and minerals, including fiber.

Nuts are my go-to snack. What nuts can a dog eat?

If you’re wondering if dogs can eat nuts, the answer is YES. HOWEVER, your doggo is better off without them, especially if they are prone to weight gain or have sensitive stomachs, as nuts are high in fat. If you really want to feed nuts to your doggo, you can opt for peanuts or cashews in small quantities, as long as they are unsalted and unseasoned.

So, the moral of the story is, YES, dogs can eat a variety of fruits and vegetables you eat, but NO, it is strongly advised that you save the nuts for yourself and try not to feed them to your doggo. Stick with fruits and vegetables safe for them to eat, and of course, dog foods your vet recommends.
