7 Work-From-Home Games To Try With Your Doggo
We all need a little quality time with our doggos during these surreal times.
1. Good ol’ tug of war
Did you guys know according to a study done by the university of southampton, playing tug of war with your doggo can give them a sense of confidence? Playing tug of war also builds a bond of trust between you and your fur baby! As it turns out, this game does not make your dog aggressive, so why not dive in!
Playing tug of war can also teach your dog impulse control. How do you do this: (1) whip out those treats, (2) award them when they are calm, before the game starts, and (3) toss them another treat when they release the toy on cue!
When playing tug of war be sure to use the right size toy with your dog! This is to prevent any choking hazards and also lets your dog remain comfortable during the game. It is also a good idea to differentiate this tug-o-war toy with another toy that is not for tugging.
One last thing to be aware of is to shake the toy side-to-side and not up and down in order to prevent strain or injuries. Learn to stop and keep the play session controlled at all times.
All set? Ready? Three… two… one… go!
2. Puppy photoshoot
Summer is almost here, so this is a great time to pose up! Take leftover party materials or anything you have lying around the house and get crafty!
Be sure to tag Team Pawsitive on social media! We have Facebook and Instagram. We would love to see the snapshots!
3. Muffin tin time
Take a muffin tin and break up some treats. Once the treat is in the bottom of each in of the muffin molds, put a tennis ball over each of the openings. You can vary the treats placement to test your doggo’s sniffing ability!
To challenge your dog mentally, you can start with only putting treats under some of the balls. This is an interactive treat game, just like a puzzle feeder, but homemade!
4. Up-cycle old t-shirts
Do you have a few old t-shirts lying around? Let’s up-cycle!
Cut the t-shirt into strips. Take three strips and tie a knot on one end. start braiding the three pieces until you run out of room and tie an end.
There you have it! A new up-cycled toy for your furry bestie. Perhaps now its time to play that round of tug of war :)
